Security expert urges U.S. to sustain police training partnership with Nigeria

A Nigerian security expert, Mr Kingsley Okafor, has appealed to the United States to extend its police training programme in Nigeria as Washington expands its military advisory engagement.
Mr Kingsley Okafor, who made this appeal on Sunday in an interview, noted that there was growing need on deepening U.S.–Nigeria security cooperation, particularly following the arrival of about 100 American military personnel at Bauchi Airfield on February 16, 2026, under the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM).
The deployment followed U.S. airstrikes targeting terrorists linked to Sokoto state on December 25, 2025.
