Governors of the five South-East states, including Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo, have resolved to inject an additional N25bn into the 2026 budget of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), in a move aimed at fast-tracking development projects across the region.
The decision, which translates to N5bn contribution from each state, was disclosed on Wednesday by Chairman of the Senate Committee on SEDC, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, during the submission of the commission’s 2026 budget report to the Senate Committee on Appropriations.
The SEDC has a proposed N140bn allocation for the 2026 fiscal year.
With the additional N25bn pledged by the governors, the commission’s funding envelope is expected to rise to N165bn, significantly boosting its capacity to execute projects.
