Rano Air has temporarily suspended some of its flight routes due to a surge in the cost of Jet A1 aviation fuel, which the airline said has risen by over 300 per cent. The decision, described as "difficult but necessary," was announced in a statement posted on the airline's X account and signed by management. The airline cited the sharp increase in fuel prices as making operations on certain routes "extremely challenging and commercially unsustainable." It did not disclose which routes are affected, though an unnamed source indicated Maiduguri and Gombe could be among them. The source added that more than 50 per cent of the airline's routes might be suspended pending a final decision. Rano Air currently serves Abuja, Lagos, Kano, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Kaduna, Katsina, Bauchi and Osubi. The airline expressed regret for the inconvenience to passengers and business partners, stating the move followed careful consideration to ensure safe and sustainable operations. Customers who have booked flights on affected routes will be assisted with refunds, rescheduling or rerouting through customer service channels. Rano Air pledged to resume suspended services once operational conditions improve. The airline reiterated its commitment to quality service and thanked passengers for their patience. According to the statement, the fuel price spike has placed "enormous pressure" on flight operations across the industry. Daily Trust reported that domestic airlines recently threatened to halt operations indefinitely over fuel costs, with some still paying close to N3,000 per litre despite the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority setting a benchmark of N2,039 per litre in Abuja and lower in Lagos. Global oil supply disruptions linked to the Middle East crisis continue to affect the local market.
