Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano State, has confirmed he is in consultations with leaders of the National Democratic Congress and the Peoples Redemption Party regarding his political future. He stated that no final decision has been made about his next move or that of his associates. The announcement was made in a statement posted on his X account on Saturday. Kwankwaso cited ongoing legal challenges facing the African Democratic Congress, including a Supreme Court judgment that affirmed the David Mark-led National Working Committee but remitted parts of the case back to the High Court. A separate Federal High Court ruling invalidated the ADC's recent convention, while the Attorney General of the Federation has applied to deregister the party. Kwankwaso likened the situation to the legal pressures that previously led him and his allies to exit the New Nigeria Peoples Party. He said the consultations with NDC, PRP and others are aimed at determining the best path forward for protecting their democratic interests. Kwankwaso emphasized that the ADC has not zoned its presidential ticket or selected a candidate. He has not declared interest in the 2027 presidential race nor endorsed any aspirant. His absence from two recent ADC stakeholders' meetings was due to personal commitments, which he said he communicated to party leaders.
