The Anambra Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in the fight against crime, with the arrest of a suspected Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) officer and two others over alleged robbery in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area. This daring operation is a testament to the bravery and dedication of the police officers involved.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects were apprehended after a thorough investigation and operation by police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu. The suspects, Francis Anene, Emmanuel Obi, and Okoye Chinonso, are alleged to be members of a criminal syndicate involved in armed robbery, kidnapping, and terrorising residents of Ogidi and its environs.
The police have recovered two locally made Beretta pistols, four rounds of live 9mm ammunition, and a suspected fake security agency identity card from the suspects. Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects may also be involved in the murder of the late President-General of Ogidi.
In a separate operation, police personnel attached to the Ozubulu Police Division recovered a suspected stolen white petrol tanker abandoned along the Onitsha/Owerri Expressway. The vehicle was found without a registration number and key in the ignition, reportedly abandoned by an unidentified individual.
The Anambra Police Command is leaving no stone unturned in its investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding these incidents and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The brazen arrest of a suspected NSCDC officer and two others over alleged robbery in Ogidi is a stark reminder of the growing threat of security agencies being compromised by corruption and crime. This incident is a wake-up call for Nigerians to demand more accountability from our security agencies and ensure that those entrusted with our safety are held to the highest standards.
