Police confirm disruption of ADC activity in Cross River
**Naija News: Police Foil Attempt to Disrupt ADC Gathering in Cross River**
In a recent development in the state of Cross River, the Police Command has confirmed that a planned gathering of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was disrupted by suspected thugs. This incident occurred in the Bakassi Local Government Area, sparking concerns about the security of the area.
According to the Police Spokesman, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, the disruption happened on Saturday when the thugs descended on the ADC gathering, destroying canopies, chairs, and sound systems. However, the Police were quick to intervene and brought the situation under control, preventing it from escalating into a full-blown crisis.
In a viral video that surfaced online, one of the thugs was heard ordering others to scatter everything, claiming that the APC (All Progressives Congress) was fixing the council area. This incident is reminiscent of a similar disruption that occurred on Tuesday in Calabar, where the ADC's activity was also disrupted.
The ADC has raised an alarm over the attempted disruption, describing it as an attempt to hijack the party's structure in the state. While no arrests have been made yet, the Police are still investigating the incident.
The Bakassi Local Government Area is known for its volatile nature, and the Police have been working to maintain peace and order in the area. In a statement, the Police Spokesman assured that the situation is under control and that officers and tactical teams are still present at the scene.
This incident serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by political parties in the country, particularly in the Niger Delta region. The Police are working to ensure that the rights of all parties are protected and that the democratic process is not disrupted.
