**Police Nab APC Official, Eight Others Over Kidnapping and Murder of Ebonyi Monarch**
A shocking turn of events has unfolded in Ebonyi State as the Police have arrested nine suspects, including a top official of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in connection with the abduction and murder of a traditional ruler.
Francis Igwe, the father of former Ebonyi State Deputy Governor Kelechi Igwe, was kidnapped on March 1, 2026, while on his way to church in the Ndufu-Alike community of Ikwo Local Government Area.
An investigation by the Police led to the arrest of two initial suspects believed to be members of the kidnap syndicate. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime and revealed that the monarch had been killed on March 2. They further offered to lead the Police to their hideout and assist in recovering the victim's remains.
However, as the Police team approached the hideout, the gang members opened fire, leading to a fierce gun battle. In the ensuing confrontation, one of the gang members was neutralized, while the others fled the scene. But the Police were able to overpower them and arrested seven more suspects, bringing the total number of suspects in custody to nine.
The Police also recovered a locally made pistol during the operation. The remains of the slain traditional ruler have been recovered and deposited in a morgue for autopsy.
The APC in Ebonyi State has expressed shock at its member's involvement in the heinous crime, while the Police have promised to charge the suspects in court after a thorough investigation is concluded.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing security challenges in the country, particularly in the South-East region. The Police have assured the public that efforts are being made to apprehend other fleeing gang members and bring them to justice.
As the investigation unfolds, Nigerians are eagerly awaiting the outcome, hoping that justice will be served and the perpetrators of this dastardly crime will be brought to book.
