Lagos State has announced temporary road closures on Lagos Island for the Fanti Carnival scheduled to begin on Monday at 7:00 a.m. The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture disclosed the affected routes in a statement issued Friday, listing key locations including King George V Road near Mobil Filling Station, Onikan Roundabout inbound to TBS, Flagstaff House inbound to TBS, Outer Marina by State House inbound to TBS, Campbell Street by the Old Defence Building, and Catholic Mission Street by St. Nicholas Hospital. The closures are intended to ensure safety and order during the annual cultural procession.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has established diversion routes to manage traffic flow. Vehicles from Obalende heading to Onikan Roundabout will be redirected to Zone 2. Those travelling from Bonny Camp toward McEwen Bridge and from Flagstaff House to TBS will use Obalende Bridge. Motorists from Outer Marina to TBS will also be rerouted via Obalende Bridge. The ministry said the measures aim to reduce congestion and maintain movement for commuters and businesses. "The state government regrets any inconvenience this may cause and appreciates the cooperation of the public," the statement read. The Fanti Carnival celebrates Lagos's Afro-Brazilian heritage with music, dance, and vibrant cultural displays.
