Godswill Akpabio, Senate President, stood in for President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday at the commissioning of three infrastructure projects in Lagos State. Tinubu, though present in Lagos, did not attend the event despite prior expectations and traffic diversions that caused long delays in Ikeja, Maryland, and Ojota. Sunday Dare, the president's special adviser on media and public communication, said Tinubu was occupied with urgent security matters, particularly following recent developments in Jos. Dare stated that the president had been receiving continuous security briefings and was coordinating with intelligence agencies from Lagos.
The projects commissioned include the Opebi-Mende-Ojota Link Bridge, designed to ease traffic congestion and offer alternative routes for commuters moving between key areas like Allen, Opebi and Maryland. Also unveiled was the Lagos State Multi-agency Complex at Alausa, now renamed Bola Ahmed Administrative Complex (BATAC), intended to house multiple state agencies to improve coordination. The third project is the Lagos Geographic Information Service (LAGIS) Office, which aims to modernise land data management, support urban planning, and advance Lagos' smart city ambitions.
