Papa Ajasco bitterly laments struggles going on in his life: “Things have not been easy”
**Papa Ajasco Speaks Out: The Hidden Struggles of a Nollywood Icon**
In a candid interview, veteran actor Abiodun Ayoyinka, popularly known as Papa Ajasco, has shared his personal and professional struggles with the Nigerian public. Despite being a household name in Nollywood, Ayoyinka revealed that life hasn't been easy for him lately.
One of the main reasons for his struggles is the trademark ownership of the Papa Ajasco character. The iconic role was created by renowned producer Wale Adenuga, who registered the character through his production outfit, Wale Adenuga Productions. This means that Ayoyinka is not allowed to use the character for personal projects, endorsements, or commercial engagements without permission.
Many companies have approached Ayoyinka for advertisements, but they specifically want him to appear as Papa Ajasco, complete with the costume and mannerisms that Nigerians have come to love. However, Ayoyinka explained that he cannot do so without official approval, which has made it difficult for him to pursue other opportunities.
"It's not been easy for me," Ayoyinka said, highlighting the limitations imposed by the trademark ownership. "Anybody that wants to work with me wants me to be Papa Ajasco, but I don't have the right to be him without permission."
Ayoyinka also revealed that he cannot even use the name or costume associated with the character without official approval. This has made it challenging for him to monetize his fame and create new opportunities outside of the Papa Ajasco franchise.
The situation has left many wondering about the implications of trademark ownership in the entertainment industry. While it may seem like a blessing to be associated with a beloved character, it can also limit an actor's creative freedom and ability to pursue other opportunities.
Ayoyinka's revelation serves as a reminder that even in the entertainment industry, there are often unseen struggles that go beyond the glamour of fame.
