The Oyo State Police Command has launched an intensive manhunt following the abduction of pupils and staff from two schools in Oriire Local Government Area on Friday, 15th May, 2026. Ayanlade Olayinka, the command's spokesperson, said suspected armed hoodlums on motorcycles attacked Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota and Community Grammar School/L.A Primary School in Esiele in the early hours of the day. The attackers abducted several pupils, students, and staff members, including Alamu Folawe, the Vice Principal of one of the schools.
Two people were confirmed killed during the incident. One was identified as Adesiyan, an assistant headmaster, while the other was a commercial motorcyclist who died after resisting attempts by the assailants to seize his bike. No pupil or student has been confirmed dead, according to police. The gunmen stole a Toyota Corolla belonging to the abducted Vice Principal but later set it ablaze along a forest path.
Commissioner of Police Abimbola Olugbenga led police operatives and other service commanders to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment. Operational teams, tactical units, and intelligence assets have been deployed to the affected communities to maintain order and support rescue efforts. The police are working to recover the abducted victims and apprehend the attackers.
The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB) has directed the closure of all primary schools near the affected communities until further notice. OYOSUBEB chairman Nureni Adeniran said the exact number of abducted pupils could not be confirmed at the time of reporting. The public has been urged to remain calm and provide credible information to aid the investigation.
Akpabio enforces an eight-year rule that would have blocked his own promotion. The rule applies to all cabinet members except the one who proposed it. This creates a clear double standard in federal appointments. Nigerians are left asking why the same conditions do not apply to all.
