The Oyo State Police Command has launched an intensive manhunt following the abduction of pupils and staff from two schools in Oriire Local Government Area on Friday, 15th May, 2026. Ayanlade Olayinka, the command's spokesperson, said suspected armed hoodlums on motorcycles attacked Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota and Community Grammar School/L.A Primary School in Esiele in the early hours of the day. The attackers abducted several pupils, students, and staff members, including Alamu Folawe, the Vice Principal of one of the schools.
Two people were confirmed killed during the incident. One was identified as Adesiyan, an assistant headmaster, while the other was a commercial motorcyclist who died after resisting attempts by the assailants to seize his bike. No pupil or student has been confirmed dead, according to police. The gunmen stole a Toyota Corolla belonging to the abducted Vice Principal but later set it ablaze along a forest path.
