Young Nigerians are being warned by Presiding Bishop David Oyedepo of Living Faith Church Worldwide that internet fraud, sports betting, and drug-related activities will not lead to lasting success. Oyedepo issued this warning during a sermon at Faith Tabernacle in Canaanland, Ota, on March 22, where he urged youths to adopt hard work, discipline, and legitimate enterprise.
The cleric pointed out that there are numerous legitimate ways to earn a living, making it unnecessary to engage in criminal pursuits. He specifically warned against computer scams, sports betting, and drug peddling, stating that these activities do not create a future for young people. Oyedepo also cautioned against prolonged dependence on parents, warning that this can ruin one's destiny.
According to Oyedepo, diligence is the foundation of sustainable success, as stated in Proverbs 14:23 and 2 Thessalonians 3:10. He cited real-life examples of individuals who achieved success through hard work and dedication, such as a university student who turned to fish farming after losing his father and a Liberian youth who built a thriving business starting as a shoe shiner.
Oyedepo emphasized that productive labour not only guarantees economic stability but also sustains mental and physical well-being. He stated that working enhances one's worth and that there is dignity in labour. The bishop also cautioned that academic qualifications without continuous development quickly lose relevance, urging young people to build skills and remain productive.
The warning from Bishop Oyedepo is a timely reminder that Nigerians, particularly young people, must adopt a culture of hard work and discipline to achieve lasting success. The Presiding Bishop's emphasis on the importance of diligence and productive labour is a stark contrast to the growing culture of idleness and quick-money pursuits among graduates. As Nigerians, we must take heed of Oyedepo's words and focus on building legitimate businesses and skills that will sustain us in the long run. The consequences of neglecting this advice will be dire, as prolonged dependence on parents and refusal to engage in productive work can ruin destinies. It is time for Nigerians to take responsibility and work towards creating a brighter future for themselves.
