Over 3m Insecticide, Treated Nets For Distribution In Kebbi
**Over 3 Million Insecticide-Treated Nets To Be Distributed In Kebbi State As Part Of Malaria Eradication Efforts**
The Kebbi State Government has announced plans to distribute over 3.1 million insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) to households across the state. This move is aimed at reducing the incidence of malaria, a major public health concern in Nigeria. The ITNs are a key tool in preventing mosquito bites and subsequently reducing malaria transmission.
Speaking on the initiative, the Kebbi State Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Yakubu Samaila Augie, reiterated the government's commitment to eradicating malaria in the state. He reminded residents to use the ITNs properly to protect their families from the disease. The distribution is a result of a collaborative effort between the Kebbi State Government, the United States, and the Against Malaria Foundation (AMF).
The exercise is set to kick off on April 11, 2026, with the official flag off, followed by a four-day distribution to households from April 12 to April 16, 2026. Over 12,000 personnel have been mobilized to manage the distribution at over 1,200 centres across the state.
The malaria elimination programme in Kebbi State has the backing of the media, with media practitioners urged to support the campaign through consistent reportage and public awareness initiatives. The programme manager, Nasir Umar Zagga, noted that media engagement is crucial to achieving the goal of a malaria-free Kebbi State.
The distribution of ITNs is expected to significantly reduce malaria transmission and contribute to the national target of eliminating the disease. With over 3.1 million ITNs to be distributed, Kebbi State is taking a major step towards achieving this goal. It is hoped that the initiative will yield positive results and reduce the burden of malaria on the people of Kebbi State.
