Victor Osimhen has revealed he ended his engagement to a Nigerian woman because she and her family demanded material gifts, including a Mercedes Benz and a house in Lagos. The Super Eagles striker, now playing for Galatasaray, said the experience made him reconsider his approach to relationships. He claimed the woman, whom he was planning to marry, frequently asked for money, which led to the breakup. In a post on X, social media commentator VeryDarkMan shared Osimhen's remarks, quoting him directly. "The Nigerian girl I wanted to marry was always asking for money. Even her father asked for a Mercedes Benz and a house in Lagos," Osimhen said. He stated this behaviour made him realise she was only interested in his wealth. Osimhen said he now appreciates his current partner, Stephanie Kim, a Cameroonian woman born in Germany, who he described as hardworking and independent. The couple already have a child together.
When Osimhen says the engagement failed because money became the focus, it exposes a growing pressure on high-earning African athletes to fund extended families through marriage. His choice to build a life with someone who does not see his wealth as communal property reflects a quiet but firm boundary many top players now draw — not just about love, but autonomy.
