Women in Film India, a pioneering organization founded by Oscar-winning producer Guneet Monga Kapoor, has taken a significant step in promoting diversity in the Indian film industry. The organization has partnered with Jio Studios, the content arm of Reliance Industries, to launch a scholarship program that will send mid-career Indian women producers to the Producers Network at the Cannes Film Market.
This initiative, which is now open for applications, aims to provide women producers with a platform to connect with international financiers, collaborators, and industry professionals. The Producers Network at Cannes is a premier access point for forging international co-production relationships, and the selected recipients will have the opportunity to attend the Producers Network Breakfast series.
The partnership with Jio Studios marks an expansion of Women in Film India's program, which was first launched last year. The organization's mission to promote inclusivity in the film industry is reflected in Jio Studios' commitment to backing women storytellers. As Jyoti Deshpande, president of Jio Studios, notes, "The future of cinema is being shaped by more inclusive voices, and we want to see more Indian women producers in the rooms where global film conversations and collaborations begin."
The scholarship program is a testament to the impact that the Producers Network has had on the careers of women producers like Guneet Monga Kapoor. As she notes, "The Producers Network has given me some of my most formative learning as a producer; the connections, the perspective, the sense of what's possible on a global scale."
The deadline for applications is April 5, and selected recipients will attend the Producers Network Breakfast series at the Cannes Film Market, which runs from May 13-18.
