The World Institute for Peace (WIP) has demanded the release of Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS) Commander-General Osatimehin Joshua Wole within 24 hours. WIP executive director Comrade Lamina Omotoyosi made the call at a media briefing in Osogbo on Monday. He said Osatimehin and his colleagues have been detained for 15 days without justification. The group attributed the detention to the Office of the National Security Adviser under Nuhu Ribadu.
WIP stated that Osatimehin and others had voluntarily supported security operations in forest areas affected by banditry and kidnapping. Their continued detention, the group said, raises concerns about justice, transparency, and national cohesion. It warned the action could deter citizens from participating in community security efforts.
WIP urged President Bola Tinubu to direct the National Security Adviser to secure Osatimehin's immediate release, stressing that the country "needs his service." The group also called for the passage of an NFSS Bill to formalize the agency's role and improve coordination in Nigeria's security architecture. WIP threatened a peaceful protest at the National Assembly and Presidential Villa if Osatimehin is not freed. It described Nigeria's security situation as needing "serious intervention rather than intimidation."
