**2026 Hajj: NAHCON Introduces Stricter Health Measures to Protect Nigerian Pilgrims**
As the 2026 Hajj season approaches, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has taken a significant step to ensure the health and safety of Nigerian pilgrims. In a bid to adhere to the stringent health guidelines set by the Saudi Arabian government, NAHCON has announced that only pilgrims who are medically certified fit will be allowed to embark on the sacred journey.
This new measure is aimed at preventing the spread of infectious diseases and protecting the health of pilgrims from Nigeria. According to NAHCON Chairman, Ismail Abba Yusuf, pilgrims must undergo thorough medical screening before being cleared for the pilgrimage. This includes being free from specified illnesses and obtaining a medical clearance form from a doctor registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
To further strengthen the health measures, NAHCON has also introduced an additional layer of screening at departure centres. This will serve as a final verification before pilgrims are airlifted to Saudi Arabia. Any pilgrim found medically unfit upon arrival risks being sent back to Nigeria, while officials who fail to comply with the regulations may face sanctions.
The commission has emphasized its commitment to safeguarding the health and safety of intending pilgrims, and has warned that any attempt to circumvent the new measures will not be tolerated. The head of the National Medical Team, Ibrahim Abubakar, has pledged the team's commitment to implementing the new measures and ensuring a smooth Hajj experience for Nigerian pilgrims.
The introduction of stricter health measures is a welcome development, given the risks associated with mass gatherings like the Hajj. It is hoped that this move will help prevent the spread of diseases and ensure a safe and successful pilgrimage for Nigerian Muslims.
