The Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta, has launched an investigation into the death of Post-Basic Nursing student Taiwo Godwin, following allegations of medical negligence by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ogun State Joint Campus Council. NANS, in a statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Faruq Olabode, said Godwin suffered an asthma attack on the football field at about 4:00 pm and was taken to the General Medical Practice Unit, where he did not receive prompt treatment. The group alleged that a doctor on duty delayed attending to him for about 15 minutes and later failed to activate an oxygen supply immediately after inserting a nasal cannula, despite offers of assistance from licensed nurses present.

NANS claimed that Godwin's friend, a licensed nurse, had to leave the hospital to obtain emergency medication due to unavailability of essential supplies, while concerns about the inactive oxygen were not promptly addressed. The friend was reportedly threatened with sedation when attempting to intervene. Personnel from other units arrived after being alerted, activated the oxygen, but Godwin was later pronounced dead. NANS said it conducted a fact-finding visit on Saturday, met protesting students at the entrance, and has demanded a public statement from hospital management, a police report, and full cooperation with an independent investigation. The group warned of a massive protest on Monday, October 19, 2026, if demands are not met.

The hospital's Public Relations Officer, Mr Abiola Ajibola, confirmed in a Saturday statement that an investigation has been launched on behalf of the Acting Provost and Medical Director.
