The Ogun State Police Command had investigated the case and arrested Olalekan on March 23, charging him with conspiracy and unlawful procurement of abortion.
The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade, clarified that the bail granted to Olalekan was based solely on the nature of the charges, not on the strength of the evidence. The Attorney-General's office has taken over the prosecution of the case, receiving the case file from the State Police Command. The charges against Olalekan are based on a police investigation that alleges he was in a relationship with Ariyo, encouraged the termination of her pregnancy, and provided financial support for the procedure.
The government dismissed claims that the evidence in the case is weak, describing them as "false and misleading." The Attorney-General emphasized that the case is still at a preliminary stage and that issues relating to evidence will be determined during trial.
