Partnership to Boost Aviation and Meteorology Sectors in Nigeria In a move to enhance service delivery in Nigeria's aviation and meteorology sectors, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen collaboration between the two institutions. This strategic partnership is expected to have a positive impact on various stakeholders in the sectors, including air passengers, air operators, and regulatory bodies. As part of the agreement, NiMet and NCAT will work together to provide training and capacity development for professionals in the aviation and meteorology sectors. This will be achieved through the use of joint facilities, advisory support for aviation training programmes, and the delivery of specialized courses for NiMet personnel. The partnership will also facilitate staff exchange programmes, joint training initiatives, and the use of NiMet's Training School in Lagos for ICAO-compliant aviation training. The partnership has identified key areas of focus, including aviation operations and management, safety management systems, crisis management, aviation security, air navigation systems, airport operations, and joint programmes such as Diploma training in Aviation Meteorology. These areas are critical to ensuring the safe and efficient operation of Nigeria's air transport system. For Dr. Danjuma Ismaila, Rector of NCAT, the partnership is a step in the right direction towards strengthening the aviation sector in Nigeria. The Director General of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike, also emphasized the importance of continuous human capital development in achieving operational excellence and supporting safe air navigation in Nigeria. With this MoU, NiMet and NCAT are set to revolutionize the aviation and meteorology sectors in Nigeria, and their partnership is a testament to the country's commitment to developing a world-class air transport system.
