Nigerian Navy personnel in Rivers State have seized a large quantity of suspected illegally refined petroleum products. The operation, carried out under Operation DELTA SENTINEL, resulted in the arrest of eight individuals. The naval patrol team intercepted two wooden boats carrying approximately 44,000 litres of Automotive Gas Oil, AGO, in the Degema/Ogbogoro/Ogbologo axis.
The Director of Naval Information, Commodore Abiodun Folorunsho, revealed the details of the operation in a statement. According to Folorunsho, the naval team acted on credible intelligence to carry out the operation. Although some armed accomplices escaped, the main suspects were apprehended and are currently in custody.
The suspects and the recovered products are expected to be handed over to relevant authorities for further investigation.
