This prestigious contest, scheduled to hold from March 18 to 21, 2026, promises to be an exhilarating experience for the five selected students.
After a rigorous selection process through the Nigeria Spelling Bee, the official Nigerian member organisation of the African Spelling Bee, the five students have proven themselves to be among the best spellers in the country. They will now have the opportunity to showcase their exceptional skills alongside their peers from across Africa.
The selected students will depart from the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos on March 17, 2026, and return on March 22, 2026, after the championship concludes. The team's journey is not without its challenges, as they will be representing Nigeria largely out of pocket, driven by passion, commitment, and the desire to make the country proud.
In a statement, the National Coordinator of the Nigeria Spelling Bee, Mr Abdulsalam Ibrahim, commended the students for their dedication and urged Nigerians to support education-based programmes that help pupils grow in learning and character. He emphasized that investing in programmes like spelling competitions is crucial for developing future leaders in Nigeria and Africa.
The Nigeria Spelling Bee has made significant strides at the African Spelling Bee since joining the competition, and this year's team is no exception. The students are expected to put up a fierce challenge against their counterparts from other African countries, making Nigeria proud once again.
