Nigeria and China are set to intensify their collaboration on pandemic preparedness and response at a high-level health security dialogue scheduled to take place in Abuja on March 30. The event, organised by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, aims to provide a platform for the exchange of practical lessons and deepened collaboration towards building more resilient health systems.
According to Ado Bako, Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations at the ministry, the meeting will focus on strengthening disease surveillance and early warning systems, improving emergency response coordination, and enhancing health system resilience. Bako notes that key discussions will centre on strategies for advancing international cooperation in pandemic preparedness, including opportunities for expanded Nigeria-China collaboration in public health research and innovation.
The dialogue will also explore opportunities for technology transfer, capacity development, and coordinated responses to cross-border health threats. The event is expected to draw a large attendance of senior government officials, global health institutions, policymakers, scientists, and development partners from over 30 organisations.
