Spread the word The death has been announced of the President of Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAqF) Chamberlain Nnamdi Dunkwu. According to a statement by the federation, Dunkwu died in Saturday morning, day a swimming young talent discovery competition, tagged “Swim to the future”, was scheduled to take place, inside package B, Moshood Abiola National Stadium Abuja. Part of the statement reads, “Nigeria’s sports community has been thrown into deep mourning following the passing of Chamberlain Nnamdi Dunkwu, the President of the Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAqF) and former Deputy Chief of Staff to the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria. “Dr. Dunkwu, widely regarded as a passionate advocate for aquatic sports development, was known for his tireless commitment to nurturing young talents and repositioning swimming and other water sports in Nigeria. His leadership brought renewed energy to the federation, with initiatives aimed at grassroots development, athlete support, and stronger institutional partnerships. “Beyond the pool, Dunkwu was respected in governance circles for his service at the National Assembly, where he worked closely within the leadership structure of the House of Representatives, contributing to administrative coordination and legislative operations. “Colleagues, athletes, and stakeholders in the sports sector have begun paying tribute to a man many described as visionary, humble, and deeply committed to youth empowerment and national development. “His passing leaves a significant void within the Nigeria Aquatics Federation and the broader Nigerian sporting community, where he was seen as a driving force behind efforts to elevate aquatic sports to new heights. “Further details surrounding his passing and funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the federation and family in due course. “His legacy in Nigerian sports and public service will long be remembered.” Dunkwu was elected few days ago as NAqF President in Abuja.
