Forty-eight new veterinary doctors from Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), were inducted into the profession during the 12th Induction and Oath-taking Ceremony for the 2024/2025 Doctor of Veterinary Medicine graduands. The event, held in collaboration with the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN), saw the issuance of practising licences to the graduates. Acting Registrar of the VCN, Dr. Oladotun Fadipe, charged the new veterinarians to uphold professional ethics in the interest of national food security and public health, a message delivered through Dr. Sarah Chimezie, who represented him. Fadipe described the induction as a formal call to responsibility, discipline, and integrity in veterinary practice.
President of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria, Prof. Mathew Adamu, emphasized the profession's role in animal health, food safety, disease control, and public health. He urged the graduates to serve as worthy ambassadors of veterinary medicine. Adamu commended MOUAU for maintaining high standards in veterinary education and producing graduates of strong character. Dr. Charles Ibe, speaking at the event, stressed adherence to professional ethics and regulatory laws. The university's Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ursula Ngozi Akanwa, represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Nneoma Elechi Obasi, hailed the induction as a milestone and highlighted the graduates' duty to safeguard animal health and support agricultural development. The VCN granted full accreditation to MOUAU's veterinary programme. Awards were presented to outstanding graduands, including Dr. Chimezie Amarachi Blessing, named overall best, and Dr. Aniorji Sandra Chinonso, who received the Farm Alert Award.
