The Nigerian Navy has arrested several of its personnel following a physical confrontation with soldiers during President Bola Tinubu's visit to Bayelsa State on Friday. The incident occurred as the presidential convoy was moving through Yenagoa, the state capital, and was captured in a 53-second video that circulated widely online. The footage shows naval officers and soldiers in uniform engaging in shouting and shoving near a vehicle in the convoy. One naval officer, identified as Lieutenant Andrew Ebhodaghe, was seen attempting to intervene, while another, identified as Lieutenant Colonel Oluwafemi Adebayo of the Army, was involved in the exchange. The Navy confirmed the arrests in a statement signed by its Director of Naval Public Relations, Commodore Ben Akarue, who described the clash as "unfortunate" and "inexcusable." The service branch said it has initiated disciplinary proceedings against those involved. President Tinubu was in Bayelsa to commission the Nigerian Navy Ship Centenary and inspect naval infrastructure. No injuries were reported, and the presidential convoy continued its schedule without further disruption.
