A former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, John Michael-Abdul, has been elected Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state. The election took place on Saturday in Lafia, the state capital, through a consensus arrangement and was ratified by delegates from all 13 local government areas. Alongside Michael-Abdul, other members of the state executive were elected, including officials for deputy chairman, secretary, treasurer, publicity secretary, woman leader, and zonal representatives from Nasarawa North, Nasarawa South, and Nasarawa West senatorial districts.
In his acceptance speech, Michael-Abdul pledged to reposition the ADC as a credible political alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections. He outlined plans to prioritise grassroots mobilisation, internal democracy, and issue-based engagement. He stated that a comprehensive work plan would be unveiled within 30 days to strengthen the party across the state's 147 electoral wards. Michael-Abdul described the mandate as one rooted in humility and duty, vowing to build a party grounded in integrity, inclusion, and service delivery.
The outgoing state chairman, Barr. Paul Magaji, expressed gratitude for his tenure and urged support for the new leadership. Kani Jibarang, chairman of the congress committee, called the process peaceful and transparent, with all positions filled without dispute. The newly elected officials were sworn in immediately after ratification.
