The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) launched a digital payment platform called "Paytogeda Campus Pay" on Thursday to reduce fraud and improve transparency in student union finances. NAPS Senate President, Mr Festus Oyewumi, announced the initiative in Ibadan, stating it would replace opaque financial practices with a structured, technology-driven system. The platform will handle union dues, levies, registration fees, departmental payments, event tickets, airtime, data and other student transactions. Oyewumi said the system ensures traceable transactions and accessible financial reports, promoting accountability among student leaders. He urged student union executives and senators across polytechnics to adopt the platform as a legacy reform. The CEO of Paytogeda, Mr Odebode Aderogba, said the platform enables visibility of contributions, traceable transactions and approval-based payouts, supporting responsible financial governance.
Nigerian polytechnic students now have a verified digital channel for paying dues and accessing financial records, reducing the risk of mismanagement and building trust in student leadership. This shift could set a precedent for how student unions operate across tertiary institutions, especially where financial opacity has long been a concern.
In a system where JAMB, WAEC and NYSC emphasize standardization and accountability, the adoption of digital financial tools in campus governance aligns with broader national efforts to modernize education administration. If extended to other student services, such platforms could streamline processes beyond unions, including departmental payments and event participation.
Students and union leaders should fully adopt Paytogeda Campus Pay, ensuring all transactions are routed through the platform to maintain transparency and build long-term credibility.
