MC Oluomo's Lawyer Accuses Him of Defying Court Judgments
In a press conference held in Lagos, the counsel to Ibikunle Tajudeen Baruwa, Barrister Tolu Babaleye, slammed Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, for disregarding court rulings. Babaleye accused MC Oluomo of acting with impunity due to alleged backing from President Bola Tinubu. The lawyer claimed that Tinubu is supporting MC Oluomo's "illegal occupation" of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) presidency, despite a court ruling that removed him from office.
Babaleye expressed frustration over the persistent disregard for judicial authority, citing a clear ruling that recognised Baruwa as the legitimate NURTW President. He alleged that efforts to involve security authorities had yielded no concrete outcome, with MC Oluomo ignoring an official invitation.
MC Oluomo allegedly told the Minister of Labour that his position in the union could only be altered by the President, further fuelling concerns about impunity. Babaleye also claimed that MC Oluomo's camp has made several attempts to draw the President's attention to the matter through petitions and media publications, but received no response.
President Tinubu's alleged backing of MC Oluomo raises serious concerns about the rule of law in Nigeria. The President's silence on the matter, despite repeated petitions and media publications, is deafening. The fact that MC Oluomo believes he can only be removed from office by the President is a clear indication of the level of impunity he enjoys. This situation has serious implications for the legitimacy of the NURTW leadership and the respect for judicial authority in Nigeria. The President must take immediate action to address this issue and restore confidence in the rule of law.
