In a remarkable display of innovation and entrepreneurial spirit, young Nigerian tech enthusiasts have emerged victorious at the maiden edition of the Enugu Campus Hackathon, a state-backed initiative designed to foster a culture of innovation and digital enterprise in the country. The event, which took place recently, showcased the best of Enugu's youth-led innovation ecosystem and brought to the fore the state's growing reputation as a hub for tech startups.
Enugu Governor, Dr Peter Mbah, who witnessed the grand finale, expressed delight at the success of the hackathon, hailing it as a significant step towards realizing his administration's vision of transforming the state's economy from a consumption-driven one to a productivity-led economy. Mbah acknowledged the crucial role that young innovators play in driving knowledge-driven and digital economies, emphasizing the need for the state to create an enabling environment that supports their growth and development.
The hackathon, which was delivered in collaboration with reputable tech hubs and venture capital companies, saw three innovative projects emerge as winners. Growdex, an AI-powered advertising automation platform, took home the top prize of $5,000 in investment grant, while Zaddy Express, a tech-enabled logistics platform, and Linia Finance, a fintech platform providing accessible credit and financial tools, came second and third, respectively, winning $3,500 and $2,500 in investment grants.
In addition to the cash prizes, the winners will participate in a six-month incubation programme with Genesys Tech Hub, valued at over $10,000, which will equip them with structured mentorship, product refinement, investor readiness, and scaling support. This initiative is a testament to the state's commitment to nurturing and supporting young innovators, and creating a pipeline of high-potential technology talents that can drive economic growth and development.
The Enugu Campus Hackathon is a deliberate effort by the state government to build a modern, innovation-driven economy anchored on enterprise, technology, and private-sector growth. With this initiative, Mbah's administration is taking a significant step towards creating a favorable business environment that encourages entrepreneurship, innovation, and job creation, positioning Enugu as a hub for youth-led digital enterprise and venture creation in Nigeria.
