Maria Owings Shriver (born November 6, 1955) is an American journalist, author, television personality, and advocate. She is part of both the Kennedy and Shriver families, and is the niece of President John F. Kennedy, U.S. Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, and Senator Ted Kennedy. Maria became nationally known as co-host of ABC’s Good Morning America from 1980 to 1997, where she interviewed world leaders, covered major events, and became a trusted voice in morning television. She later turned her attention to writing, producing documentaries, and starting the Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement. From 2003 to 2011, she was First Lady of California while Arnold Schwarzenegger was governor.
