Many feared dead in Maiduguri explosions
Blasts Rock Maiduguri, Multiple Deaths Feared in Latest Terror Attack
Multiple explosions have rocked Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, on a Monday evening, leaving many feared dead. The explosive devices detonated simultaneously at strategic locations, including the gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), the busy Monday Market Roundabout, and the Post Office area.
This latest attack comes just 15 hours after Boko Haram terrorists launched a series of attacks on military locations in Ajari, Baga, and Damboa. Eyewitnesses claim that the terrorists sneaked into the Monday Market using tricycles, planting Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) that were later detonated, causing widespread destruction and chaos.
"I was about to close my shop when the first bomb went off," said a survivor, Abacha Mustapha, who was injured in the blast. "I saw my neck bleeding, and my brother had to tie it with a cloth to stop the bleeding. He then took me to the hospital."
Another eyewitness, Umar Bolori, revealed that the terrorists used tricycles to smuggle the IEDs into the market. "We saw the IED detonate from a tricycle, while another one exploded near a security vehicle where people were waiting to board buses," he said.
Security sources have confirmed that female suicide bombers were involved in some of the attacks, while others were planted in strategic locations by the terrorists.
As of now, the casualty figure is not available, but a spokesperson for the Nigerian Red Cross, Babagana Isa, has confirmed that at least five people have been reported dead. Rescue efforts are underway, with health and humanitarian workers struggling to transport the injured and corpses to hospitals.
The situation in Maiduguri is tense, with residents describing waves of attacks on the outskirts of the city, including Dalwa, Ajilari, Dalori, Jakana, and Konduga. The insurgents seem to have surrounded Maiduguri, leaving residents in fear for their lives.
