A 25-year-old man, Toheeb Hamzat, appeared before a Grade A Customary Court at Mapo in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday, over the alleged theft of a motorcycle valued at N1.2 million. He faces a one-count charge of stealing but pleaded not guilty. The court, presided over by O.E. Owoseni, granted Hamzat bail of N450,000 with two sureties in like sum. One surety must be a blood relative of the defendant and must present proof of tax payment to the Oyo State government and a valid means of identification. The case has been adjourned to April 30 for hearing.
Prosecutor Inspector Ayodele Ayeni told the court that the alleged theft occurred on March 13 and March 14 at around 8:30 p.m. in the Labiran area of Ibadan. The motorcycle, a black TVS model with number plate 219VID, belongs to Kazeem Suleiman, the complainant. Ayeni stated that police investigations led to Hamzat's arrest. The charge is brought under section 390 (9) of the Criminal Law of Oyo State.
