One person is dead and three others injured following a violent clash at the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex on Sunday. The incident occurred during an enforcement operation by the complex's task force to stop unauthorised construction at the Balogun Business Association (BBA) market along the Badagry Expressway. The task force was reportedly attacked by armed individuals who opened fire, killing one official instantly and wounding three others. The Executive Director of the complex, Mrs Veronica Ndanusa, confirmed the fatality and ordered the immediate closure of the BBA section. She stated the area would remain sealed under police supervision until the perpetrators are apprehended. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Ndanusa stressed that the complex operates under federal oversight by the Ministry of Trade and Investment, with all traders bound by regulated lease agreements. Alhaji Bakare, Chairman of the Trade Fair Task Force, described the attack as coordinated, saying armed men ambushed the team. Chief Security Officer Bawa Outa said prior warnings had been issued against the illegal construction. Security agencies, including the Lagos State Police under Commissioner Fatai Tijani, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and military personnel, were deployed to restore order and evacuate the wounded.
