Lagos police boss warns task force over human rights abuses.
The Lagos State Police Commissioner, Mr Olohundare Jimoh, has threatened to disband the state's task force if any of its personnel are found guilty of violating human rights.
Jimoh made this warning while addressing journalists at the police command's headquarters in Ikeja, in response to a viral video showing the arrest of a traffic offender.
The police chief defended the actions of the officers involved, stating that the individual was treated in accordance with the law and due process. The suspect was taken to a mobile court, where charges were read and bail was granted, but later remanded for failing to meet the bail conditions.
Jimoh acknowledged the importance of the task force in enforcing environmental and sanitation laws in Lagos, but stressed the need for officers to respect human rights and maintain professionalism.
He also praised the role of social media and the media in bringing such incidents to light, but cautioned against spreading misinformation that could undermine public trust.
