**Pensioners in Lagos Get a Boost from Sanwo-Olu's Administration**
In a reassuring move, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has come out to declare that no pensioner in the state is being owed any arrears. This commitment to prioritizing the welfare of retirees is a welcome relief to many who have dedicated their lives to serving the government.
During a courtesy visit by the senior management team of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), led by Tolulope Odunaiya, Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration's dedication to treating pensioners with dignity, fairness, and equity. He highlighted the importance of valuing the lives and contributions of retirees, who have spent significant portions of their lives serving the government.
One of the key reforms under the contributory pension scheme in Lagos is the settlement of all outstanding liabilities. According to the governor, the state has cleared all arrears over the past three years, making it the only state in Nigeria without any outstanding pension debts. This achievement is a testament to the administration's commitment to ensuring that retirees receive their benefits promptly.
Retirees with complete documentation can now expect to receive their entitlements within two to three months of leaving service. This streamlined process confirms the governor's pledge to provide respect and a listening ear to those who have served the country.
Sanwo-Olu also pledged continued support for PTAD to improve the welfare and well-being of pensioners residing in Lagos. With nearly 200,000 pensioners under the Defined Benefit Scheme residing in the state, this collaboration is crucial in ensuring that these retirees receive the fairness, dignity, and access to benefits they deserve.
The reforms approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in August 2025 aim to enhance social protection and ensure dignity for senior citizens. Lagos State's commitment to these reforms is a positive step towards improving the lives of its retirees and upholding the dignity of those who have served the nation.
