Lagos: Man sales sister’s one-month-old baby for N2m
**Baby Sold for N2m in Lagos: Man Arrested Over Heartbreaking Deal**
In a shocking incident, a 30-year-old man has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly selling his sister's one-month-old baby for a staggering N2 million. The suspect, who resides in the Igbogbo area of Ikorodu, was arrested after the baby's mother reported the matter to the police.
According to reports, the suspect claimed that he was motivated by financial difficulties and the need to fund his late mother's burial, which led him to arrange the sale. He allegedly connected with a woman who was seeking to adopt a child through Facebook. After discussing the terms, he was instructed to bring the baby to the Mile 2 area of Lagos, where a man acting on behalf of the buyer collected the child.
The suspect claimed that N2 million was transferred to his bank account shortly after the handover, and he later gave his sister N500,000 while using the remaining money to organize their mother's burial. However, the situation took a different turn after the burial when the child's mother demanded the return of her baby and accused the suspect of manipulating her into agreeing to the arrangement.
The police have taken over the case, transferring it to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti for further investigation. The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the SCID, Dayo Akinbisehin, confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that the suspect will face prosecution once the inquiry is concluded.
This incident highlights the dark side of human nature and the desperation that can drive people to make unimaginable decisions. It also raises concerns about the safety and well-being of vulnerable individuals, including infants. As the police continue to investigate this case, Nigerians are left to wonder about the true circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking deal.
