Lagos Govt Warns Actress Sarah Martins To Stop Cooking On Public Roads
The Lagos State Government has warned Nollywood actress Sarah Martins to stop cooking food on public roads while carrying out charity activities in the state.
The warning was issued by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, who said the activity violates Lagos environmental and public order regulations.
In a message addressed to the actress on Saturday, Wahab acknowledged the charitable intention behind the initiative but stressed that such activities cannot be carried out on roads, walkways, or medians.
“Dear @officialsarahmartins, my attention has been drawn to your recent activity of cooking and distributing food on the streets of Lagos. While we acknowledge and appreciate the spirit of charity and compassion behind what you are trying to do, carrying out such activities on public roads, walkways or medians is not permitted under Lagos environmental and public order regulations,” he said.
The commissioner warned that the actress could face legal consequences if the activity continues.
“I would strongly advise that you desist from carrying out street cooking or similar activities in public spaces in Lagos in order to avoid apprehension and prosecution,” Wahab added.
According to the government, cooking on public roads could lead to sanitation concerns, safety risks, and traffic disruptions.
Wahab advised the actress to channel her humanitarian efforts through approved venues and organised platforms that comply with state regulations.
The commissioner also revealed that the latest warning was not the first issued to Sarah Martins, noting that authorities had previously exercised restraint because of the charitable nature of her outreach.
Sarah Martins has gained attention for organising street feeding programmes aimed at supporting vulnerable people in Lagos.
In October 2025, the actress accused officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, popularly known as Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), of harassment after they stopped her from cooking during a charity outreach in the Lekki area.
At the time, the Lagos State Government explained that the intervention was necessary because cooking or trading on roads and sidewalks is prohibited under environmental sanitation laws designed to maintain public order, safety, and cleanliness.
Authorities have now urged the actress to continue her charitable activities through approved channels that comply with state regulations.
