**Get Ready for Ogunnusi Road Reconstruction: Lagos Govt Announces Traffic Diversions**
As Lagos continues to grow, so does the need for improved infrastructure to accommodate the increasing population. In a bid to alleviate traffic congestion and promote efficient movement, the Lagos State Government has announced a major reconstruction project on Ogunnusi Road in Ikeja. The project, scheduled to commence on March 6, 2026, will focus on upgrading a 9-kilometre stretch of the dual carriageway, transforming it into a major arterial corridor linking Ojodu-Berger to Agege.
The reconstruction will take place in two phases, with Phase I set to cover a 4.5-kilometre stretch from Ojodu-Berger Bus Stop to Mobil Filling Station Junction. During this period, which is expected to last until February 6, 2027, motorists will experience significant traffic diversions. To avoid congestion, drivers will be directed to use alternative routes, including Dr Nurudeen Olowopopo Way, Obafemi Awolowo Way, and Lateef Jakande Road. Articulated vehicle and truck drivers will be diverted through Ojota/Maryland to access Kodesoh Street and Oba Akran Avenue.
The Lagos State Government has assured motorists of a smooth traffic management system, with emergency tow vehicles stationed along the corridor to respond promptly to breakdowns and incidents. Motorists have been advised to exercise patience, obey traffic signs, and cooperate with traffic management officials deployed along the corridor.
The Ogunnusi Road reconstruction project is a welcome development, considering the road's strategic location as an alternative route to the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The project will improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and provide a safer environment for commuters. While the temporary disruptions may cause some inconvenience, the long-term benefits of this project will be worth the wait.
As Lagos continues to evolve, infrastructure development projects like this one will play a crucial role in shaping the city's transportation landscape. By investing in its roads and traffic management systems, the state government is demonstrating its commitment to creating a more efficient, safe, and prosperous city for all residents.
