Kwara PDP has reaffirmed its readiness to participate in the Abuja national convention slated for March 29, 2026. The decision was made after a crucial meeting convened by the State Executive Committee. Ali Ahmad, a governorship aspirant and party stalwart, spoke on behalf of aspirants and stakeholders at a press briefing in Ilorin on Wednesday.
The meeting was held to deliberate on whether delegates from Kwara should participate in the Abuja convention, especially after attending the Ibadan convention last November. The stakeholders carefully considered the implications of attending another national convention so soon after the Ibadan exercise. They weighed the pros and cons of participation, including the potential impact on the party's future in Kwara State and at the national level.
The stakeholders were unanimous in their decisions, agreeing that the state chapter would fully participate in the Abuja convention. According to Ahmad, the delegates would send their representatives to participate fully in the coming national convention in Abuja on March 29. The party would review the outcome of the convention afterwards, in line with legal requirements.
Ahmad expressed confidence in the party, stating that the PDP remains a formidable political force across Kwara State. The party's decision to participate in the Abuja convention is seen as a significant step towards its future success.

By sending delegates to the convention, the party is taking a significant step towards strengthening its position in Kwara State and at the national level. The party's confidence in its ability to contest the 2027 general elections is well-placed, given its history of success in the state. However, the party must ensure that it learns from past experiences and makes necessary adjustments to stay ahead of the competition. With the PDP's reputation on the line, it is crucial that the party's leadership takes a proactive approach to addressing the challenges it faces.
