The film follows a family filming an indie horror movie on a farm, which is eerily similar to the Bacon family's own experiences filming home videos on their own farm in New England. Shot outside of Austin, Texas, the low-budget film ( clocking in at just 1 hour and 21 minutes) came with its own set of challenges, including many nights of Domino's pizza for the cast and crew. However, the family is hopeful that "Family Movie" will strike a chord with audiences, just as it did at the Zach Theater in Austin. The film boasts an impressive cast, including John Carroll Lynch, Jackie Earle Haley, Liza Koshy, and Andrea Savage, among others. Koshy, who also filmed some of the movie's phone footage on her Google Pixel, joked that she feared for her life on set, given the film's eerie atmosphere. Travis Bacon, a talented musician in real life and in the film, also composed the score for "Family Movie", which is currently in search of a distributor.
