The Kebbi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed its participation in the forthcoming national convention. The convention is being organised by a faction of the party aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. According to Abubakar Kalgo, the State Secretary of the party, the decision to attend the convention was taken unanimously by key stakeholders in the state.

Kalgo stated that all delegates from Kebbi State are prepared to participate fully in the exercise, which is scheduled to take place in Abuja from Sunday to Monday. The state secretary expressed satisfaction with the arrangements for the convention and highlighted the importance of strengthening internal cohesion within the party.

The Kebbi PDP's decision to attend the convention reflects its commitment to remain actively engaged in the party's national activities. This move comes after the state chapter rejected the emergence of Kabiru Tanimu as National Chairman during a convention held in Ibadan in November. The state chapter had opposed his emergence, citing his alleged lack of active involvement in party activities within the state and failure to consult key stakeholders before declaring his ambition.

The Kebbi PDP's decision to attend the Wike-backed national convention raises questions about the party's internal dynamics. By participating in the convention, the Kebbi PDP is effectively aligning itself with the faction led by Nyesom Wike. This move may have significant implications for the party's future, particularly in the context of the 2023 elections. The fact that the Kebbi PDP is willing to put aside its differences with Kabiru Tanimu suggests a desire to strengthen internal cohesion and reposition the party for future contests. However, this decision may also be seen as a calculated move to secure support from the Wike faction, which could have far-reaching consequences for the party's leadership and direction.
