Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has passed the All Progressives Congress national screening for the 2027 governorship election. The exercise took place on Friday in Abuja at the Plateau State Liaison Office, led by screening committee chairman Nentawe Yilwatda. Idris was among sitting governors seeking re-election assessed by the panel.
Yilwatda confirmed Idris met the party's requirements and legal provisions for re-election. "Having met the requirement of the party and the provisions of the law, you have been successfully screened and qualified to contest for second term in office," he said. Idris thanked the APC national leadership for approving his candidacy. "I appreciate the APC national leadership for finding me worthy to be the flag bearer of the party for the forthcoming 2027 general elections," he said. He also thanked Kebbi residents for their support.
The governor pledged to expand developmental projects across all sectors if re-elected. "My second term in office will provide more developmental projects across all sectors of the economy," he said. He promised to sustain and broaden existing programmes for the benefit of Kebbi citizens and the country.
Idris attended the screening with Kebbi APC chairman Abubakar Kana-Zuru, former governor Saidu Usman Nasamu Dakingari, Acting Speaker Samaila Muhammad Bagudo, Secretary to the State Government Yakubu Bala Tafida, and other officials.
Idris, a former labour leader, was elected in 2023 on the APC platform, succeeding Atiku Bagudu. His administration has prioritised infrastructure, education, agriculture and civil service reforms. The APC remains the dominant party in Kebbi State, positioning Idris as an early favourite for 2027.
