Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, led 17 European Union envoys on a visit to the ancient Kusugu Well in Daura, a historic site dating back approximately 2,005 years. This visit was part of the activities marking the 2026 Eid-el-Fitr celebration in the state. The diplomats witnessed the traditional Hawan Magajiya celebration in Daura, which showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Daura Emirate. Royal horsemen rode in a grand procession, paying homage to the Emir of Daura, while traditional title holders and palace guards dressed in full regalia brought the emirate's history to life.
The governor commended the Daura Emirate for preserving its cultural identity, expressing confidence that the tradition would endure for generations to come. The visit was attended by top officials, including the Deputy Governor, Malam Faruk Lawal, and the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Garba Faskari.
The state's commitment to building an inclusive government and providing a conducive environment for sustainable development and economic growth was also emphasized. Governor Radda assured international partners that Katsina State remains one of the most business-friendly states in Nigeria.
The recent visit by EU envoys to the Kusugu Well in Daura highlights the rich cultural heritage of Katsina State. Governor Dikko Umaru Radda's commitment to preserving this heritage is commendable, but it is equally important to ensure that this cultural identity is not used as a smokescreen for the state's economic woes. The fact that Katsina State remains one of the most business-friendly states in Nigeria is a welcome development, but it is crucial to translate this into tangible economic benefits for the people. Governor Radda's administration must be held accountable for delivering on its promises of inclusive governance and sustainable development. The people of Katsina State deserve to see concrete results from these international partnerships and development initiatives.
