A tragic road accident has occurred in Katsina State, claiming the life of Dalhat Machika, a delegate from Sabuwa Local Government Area. The incident occurred on Wednesday as the delegates were travelling to attend the All Progressives Congress (APC) North-west Zonal Congress in Kaduna State.
The crash has left several others injured, including the former Deputy Governor of Katsina State, Hon. Sirajo Umar Damari, and the APC Chairman of Sabuwa Local Government Area.
According to a statement from the Chief Press Secretary to Katsina State Governor Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, the injured victims are receiving treatment at Yusuf Dantsoho Memorial Hospital in Tudun Wada, Kaduna.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda paid a visit to the hospital, accompanied by senior government officials, including the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Hon. Ibrahim Kabir Masari.
During the visit, the governor expressed sympathy to the injured and their families, prayed for their quick recovery, and assured them of the government's full support.
The tragic road accident involving APC delegates in Katsina State highlights the alarming rate of accidents on Nigeria's roads. Governor Dikko Umaru Radda's prompt visit to the hospital, accompanied by senior officials, demonstrates the government's willingness to respond to emergencies. However, the incident raises questions about road safety in the country, particularly in rural areas. The fact that several delegates, including a former Deputy Governor, were injured in the crash is a stark reminder of the risks involved in traveling long distances on Nigeria's poorly maintained roads. The government must take concrete steps to address this issue and ensure that our roads are safe for travelers.
