Giacobbe “Jake” LaMotta (July 10, 1922 – September 19, 2017) was an American professional boxer, world middleweight champion from 1949 to 1951, and one of the most durable and ferocious fighters in boxing history. Nicknamed “the Bronx Bull” and “Raging Bull” for his relentless swarming, stalking, and inside fighting style, LaMotta was a classic slugger who absorbed tremendous punishment thanks to one of the strongest chins ever seen in the sport. His legendary six-fight rivalry with Sugar Ray Robinson is considered one of the greatest in boxing history, with LaMotta winning only once despite dropping Robinson multiple times.
