Jack Rowden Hughes (born May 14, 2001) is an American ice hockey centre and alternate captain for the New Jersey Devils in the NHL. Known as one of the top playmakers of his generation, Hughes was picked first overall by the Devils in the 2019 NHL Draft. He came up through the U.S. National Team Development Program and has become a key player in the Devils’ rebuild.
In February 2026, Hughes made history by scoring the overtime winner for Team USA in the Olympic gold medal game against Canada, helping the U.S. win its first hockey gold since 1980. As of February 2026, he remains a leader for both his club and his country.
