Insecurity: Terrorist Operation Hasn’t Happened In Ondo Since Owo Massacre — Gov Aiyedatiwa
**Osun Osogo: Ondo State Still Free from Terrorist Attacks Since Owo Church Massacre**
In a recent media chat, Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, gave a reassuring update on the security situation in the state. According to him, since the devastating Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church attack in Owo in June 2022, Ondo State has not experienced any major terrorist operation.
While acknowledging that there have been isolated cases of kidnapping for ransom, Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed confidence in the security agencies' ability to engage and apprehend those responsible. He emphasized that the state is working to ensure the safe release of kidnapped victims and to track down the perpetrators.
When asked about recent killings attributed to suspected bandits in some parts of the state, the governor clarified that these incidents were not typical bandit attacks. Unlike the notorious bandits that wreak havoc in the North, these cases were described as isolated incidents without the hallmark of destruction and wanton killings characteristic of bandit attacks.
In a related development, Governor Aiyedatiwa spoke highly of the Amotekun corps, a local security outfit established to complement the efforts of major security agencies in the state. He described Amotekun as a version of state police, which has been effective in enhancing security in Ondo State.
The Owo church attack, which left dozens dead and many injured, was a tragic event that drew international condemnation. Five suspects are currently being tried over the incident. Despite this, Governor Aiyedatiwa's statement provides hope that Ondo State is moving in the right direction in terms of security.
