The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has rolled out a massive deployment of high-tech surveillance devices and operational tools nationwide. The move is aimed at bolstering intelligence gathering and enhancing national security operations across the country. According to reports, the Commandant-General, Ahmed Audi, distributed the items to state formations after a strategic meeting with heads of various state formations. The deployment covers all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The gadgets, which include mini pads, solar chargers, GPS trackers, and situation room connectivity packs, are designed to improve surveillance capacity, boost rapid response to security threats, and safeguard critical national assets and infrastructure. The Commandant-General emphasized that protecting these assets remains the core mandate of the corps. The deployment also includes drones, uniforms, boots, and other operational tools to aid personnel in their duties.
Audi attributed the effectiveness of the corps' operations to intelligence sharing and inter-agency collaboration. He highlighted the destruction of over 400 illegal refineries, numerous arrests, and successful prosecution of economic sabotage cases. Plans are underway to exchange intelligence with sister security agencies to ensure coordinated operations.
The Commandant-General expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for reappointing him and to the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for their continued support. He acknowledged the challenges faced during his first tenure, including personnel rank stagnation and inadequate training. However, he noted that the corps has now implemented a structured curriculum for career progression and professional development.
The NSCDC's efforts to enhance national security operations are a step in the right direction. However, the effectiveness of these measures will depend on the execution and coordination of the corps' activities.
The NSCDC's deployment of high-tech surveillance devices and operational tools is a welcome development in the fight against insecurity in Nigeria. The Commandant-General's emphasis on intelligence sharing and inter-agency collaboration is a crucial step towards ensuring coordinated and efficient operations. The corps' efforts to address personnel challenges and implement a structured curriculum for career progression are also commendable. However, the success of these initiatives will ultimately depend on the commitment of the Federal Government to supporting the corps' operations.
