Imo: Youths warned against sabotaging empowerment initiatives
**Imo Youths Warned Against Undermining Empowerment Initiatives**
Youths in the South East have been cautioned against disrupting empowerment programmes aimed at boosting economic development and inclusion in Nigeria. The Director-General of the Tinubu Youth Vanguard Organisation (TYVO), Innocent Shedrach Egede, issued the warning after a youth empowerment rally in Owerri, Imo State was disrupted.
The City Boy Movement, an organisation behind the empowerment programme, had planned to distribute items to youths across the South-East. However, the event turned chaotic when some participants and locals stormed the venue, causing a stampede and looting of items meant for distribution.
Egede described the disruption as unfortunate and unpatriotic, saying it undermines genuine efforts to empower young Nigerians. "It's disheartening that an event meant to uplift our youths and promote economic inclusion was sabotaged by disorderly behaviour," he said. "Such actions discourage development programmes and deprive deserving youths of opportunities intended for them."
Egede urged authorities and stakeholders to ensure that future empowerment programmes are conducted in a secure and orderly environment. He also appealed to Nigerians to be patient and supportive of the economic reforms being implemented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration.
The Tinubu administration's policies aim to stabilise the economy and ensure sustainable growth for Nigerians. Egede stressed that Nigeria's ongoing reforms require collective patience and cooperation. This is a significant call, especially given the current economic challenges facing Nigeria. It is essential for youths to support and collaborate with the government in promoting economic development and inclusion.
In Nigeria, where unemployment and poverty rates are high, empowerment programmes are crucial in addressing these issues. It is, therefore, essential for youths to understand the importance of these programmes and support them rather than disrupting them. By working together, Nigeria can achieve sustainable economic growth and development, creating opportunities for all Nigerians.
